Dear Customers,

We are not in any way associated with the Iowa farm that is responsible for the current egg recall due to Salmonella contamination. Our farm and the family farms we work with all participate in a number of food safety inspection, testing, and quality programs that help us ensure that our eggs are safe for our customers.

Sincerely,
Pete and Gerry

Egg-citing News!

Reach the Beach is almost here
The 2010 Reach the Beach Relay race will be in just a few weeks on September 17th and 18th. Pete and Gerry's is the sustainability sponsor of the 200-mile, 24-hour race from Franconia Notch to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.

Pete and Gerry's is sponsoring recycling bins along the racecourseWe're sponsoring recycling bins all along the racecourse and expect to recycle close to three tons of material from start to finish. We're partnering with Athletes for a Fit Planet to make sure the race leaves the smallest possible environmental footprint.

We're also donating our delicious organic eggs to the Allentown and Candia Fire Departments for their fundraising breakfasts. Stop in for a great breakfast!

Organic eggs deserve greener packaging
We're pleased to announce that we're changing to a new plastic carton design that's even more environmentally friendly than our current plastic carton. We're making the change because we're committed to energy conservation and sustainable living.

The new bi-fold design is made from recycled PETE plastic. The new carton uses 20% less plastic than our current tri-fold package and is fully recyclable without using water. more >>

Our hero
On July 31, the day after his 92nd birthday, the farm's founder, Les Ward, was presented with 14 medals he earned more than sixty years ago as a Navy dive-bomber pilot with the Pacific Fleet in World War II.

Les served on four different aircraft carriers -- the Saratoga, Intrepid, Enterprise and Bunker Hill -- and flew 75-100 missions. He received citations for heroism and meritorious achievement in aerial combat including two Distinguished Flying Crosses and six Air Medals.

After returning home to Monroe, Les started Ward Poultry. He built the farm into a successful egg producer with its own processing plant. When he retired in 1972, his son, Terry, and son-in-law, Gerry, took over the farm. In 1996, they switched to organic eggs and renamed it Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs.

Les was never presented with the medals he earned; so his daughter, Carol, arranged for him to finally receive his medals in a formal ceremony at the American Legion in Littleton NH. The ceremony was preceded by an informal luncheon attended by friends and family.

Heading for the Head of the Charles Regatta
It's official. We'll be at the Head of the Charles Regatta again this fall. Look for us at the Weld Exposition midway along the racecourse [PDF file].
