New Hampshire egg farm donates cage-free eggs to food banks

Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs donated 720 dozen eggs each to food banks in Manchester NH, Boston and New York City. The Nellie's Nest Cage-Free eggs were delivered to the food banks just in time for Easter.

Farm Manager Jesse Laflamme was delighted about making the donations. "In these tough economic times, we all need to help each other. Donated food supplies are dropping just when the number of people who need assistance is rising."

The eggs were donated to the New Hampshire Food Bank, the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Food Bank for New York City. All three provide much needed assistance for women, children, seniors and the working poor. According to the Food Bank of New York City's website (www.foodbanknyc.org), the number of families experiencing food shortages has reached crisis levels. Low - to moderate-income families are often forced to choose between food and paying rent or utility bills. Many lack access to affordable, nutritious food, which can lead to higher concentrations of diet-related conditions like diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

"I'm pleased we can do this," Laflamme continued. "What better day than Easter to have fresh eggs for breakfast."

Nellie's Nest Cage Free Eggs (www.nellienest.com) come from hens kept in spacious chicken coops where they can roam, scratch, perch and nest as they please. Each egg contains approximately 200 mg of Omega 3 fatty acids. The hens are fed only all-natural grain with no animal by-products and are Certified Humane Raised & Handled™.

The distinctive purple package with Nellie right on top can be found in most supermarkets in the northeastern United States.
