Egg cartons carry a lot of labels these days, like organic, cage-free and Certified Humane. These terms can be confusing and even misleading, so we want to let you know what those terms mean on our packages.
Organic
Certified Organic means our hens have been fed only certified organic feed with no antibiotics, growth hormones, medications, herbicides or GMOs. While our hens are all cage-free, some organic hens are currently raised in battery cages. The USDA organic seal can only be placed on the packaging of eggs produced by certified organic poultry farmers.
 Cage-Free
Most U.S. egg-laying hens are confined in wire-floored, battery cages, crowding each bird into a space less than the size of an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper for their whole life. All of our hens are cage-free. They live in spacious barns where they can move around as they please, lay their eggs in a nest, scratch and roost. Our hens can act like chickens.
 Certified Humane®
Certified Humane Raised and Handled® is a certification program requiring the humane treatment of farm animals. The Certified Humane label assures you our hens have ample space, shelter and gentle handling to limit stress, ample fresh water and a healthy diet of quality feed without added antibiotics or hormones, and are free to do what comes naturally, like roosting, scratching and dust bathing.
