The Chicken of the Month: BeatriceLaying Eggs Since: March 2004
Hobbies: Laying eggs, sitting in her nest, laying more eggs.
Beatrice is very serious about laying eggs. In fact, she was a little upset about leaving her nest to have this picture taken (as you can see, despite our best efforts, we couldn't get her to smile... not even a little).
The Chicken of the month: BettyHobbies: Hullabaloo, making a racket, general mischief.
Betty is perhaps more cuckoo than chicken. We have concluded that she simply enjoys stirring up her friends and neighbors. Without warning or reason, she will interrupt the tranquil clucking, scratching, eating, and preening with a pitch and volume clucking that would be the envy of a prize rooster. She struts and squawks like a mad wet hen until stymied by the fact that the group has chosen to ignore her ruckus. Betty is our chicken who cries wolf.
The Chicken of the month: GertrudeLaying Eggs Since: June 2004
Hobbies: Pestering visitors, seeking out shiny objects.
Gertrude (or Gert, as we believe her friends call her) is a little bolder than your average brown chicken. When anyone walks into the front of the barn, Gert is known to make a "B-line" for them. Gert then proceeds to jump vertically in what can only be described as a compulsive and single-minded attempt to peck her visitor's hand. Beware, she finds jewelry even more irresistible.
The Chicken of the month: MollyLaying Eggs Since: December 2003
Hobbies: Preening, gossiping, roosting, untying our shoelaces, and eating - chicken feed is her favorite.
Molly lays eggs with dark brown shells and golden yolks in the 5th nest in our 1st barn.
Chicken of the Month: Isabelle
Hobbies: Roosting
Isabelle is a very shy chicken who likes to spend most of her time roosting. Most of the girls like to socialize and be in the center of the fray, but not Isabelle. She would much rather spend the afternoon up in the air watching over the cackling calamity down below her.
